Grand Re-Opening: Remembering 2015

It has been a long time since I’ve been here. I had to close up shop for a while as this year has been especially difficult for me. I won’t get into too much details but a lot of losses to say the least. I in no way anticipated being gone for so long, a month or two max, but here I am NINE months later and finally feel I’m in a place to get things going again. I’m thankful for that and thankful for the friends and family who have supported and encouraged me this past year. 2015 will go down in the record books for sure.

While there were many losses this year, I’ve seen some good times too. One of the losses in my life forced me to go from stay-at-home-mom to sole provider. It’s been an adjustment for sure. I decided to take my life in a different direction and accomplish another life goal. To become a nurse. I applied for and was accepted into Chamberlain College of Nursing. It’s an accelerated program so I will graduate with my BSN in the Spring of 2018. I am looking forward to that day! Nursing is what I’ve always wanted to do after leaving the service. I gave it up for several reasons. After things changed this year, I thought it would be a great way of starting over. New life. New career.

I’ve been remodeling my website for most of the day today. How do you like the changes I’ve made? I love them! I will be doing more in the coming weeks and especially want to add a way for you to shop directly from my website. I’m still working out all of those details though. I’d say it’s coming along quite nicely though. I’ve been busy knitting up a storm when I’m not studying. I am changing the focus of my brand slightly. I’m adding more infant clothing items to my shop. I love making them and they are super easy to whip up. I still make photography props but will be adding more items that aren’t necessarily for photographers only. I still love newborn and infant photography!

Some of the items that I recently added were these cute infant boots and currently working on adding this woven knit blanket.

The boots are crocheted and so adorable. The pattern is written for sizes newborn to 12 months. I add some hot glue dots to the soles of the 6 – 12 month sizes so little feet can have some traction when walking! The technique for the blanket is new to me. It’s called Entrelac. It’s knitted in one piece usually with a variegated yarn but I opted for this color changed in the pattern. It makes the process only slightly more complicated but the outcome is going to be fabulous. Both are fantastic and I love them!!! My other project that I’m currently working on is a baby lace cardigan. It is super cute and looks great with these infant boots! Forgive the blurry image. This set was made for a friend of mine and I hadn’t made my light box yet!

Speaking of my light box!!! I am really focusing on taking better images of my work. So I went to Wal-Mart and picked up some of the foam core boards and made my own! I’m so excited. It definitely makes a difference in the lighting and overall quality of my images. Now to just practice more with it so I don’t have to do as much editing. I don’t have a fancy shmancy camera and have never fancied myself as a photographer so most of my images are taken on my iPhone 5s. I think they turn out ok and with some practice they will only get better! What do you think?

So here is to the closing of 2015 and a renewal of me for the year to come. I have officially reopened my ETSY shop. There isn’t much on the shelves, I’m working on filling them as quickly as possible. For everything else I will take custom orders! As a celebration I’m offering a 10% discount on all orders from now through the end of the year! Just use REOPENING at checkout! Thank you all so much for hanging out and making this journey worth it!

Those booties are so cute! I’ve always wanted to try knitting, but just haven’t done it yet. I’m sorry to hear you’ve had so many losses this year, but yay for making it through those things and moving on to new chapters. congrats on going into nursing, what a big leap!

Congratulations on your decision to pursue nursing! And I love these knitted project. I love knitting but only do the very basics. One of these days I’ll learn more advanced techniques 🙂 That woven blanket is just the coolest!
